The goal of the Legacy Machine No.1 was to create a tribute to the fine and antique watchmaking of the past, and combine it with the forward-looking spirit of MB&F. The nod to the past was largely achieved through the classical round case of the watch, sized at 44mm, and the finishing of the movement. The engravings, Geneva waves and the internal bevelled and polished angles all highlight the skilled handcraft of traditional watchmaking.
That being said, the design of the forward-thinking nature of MB&F is apparent, most notably through the central balance wheel that has been placed in the front of the watch, floating above the movement and the dials. The very large, bespoke, 14 mm balance wheel, with four traditional regulating screws is striking, separating itself from the manual-winding, single mainspring barrel movement beneath. The unique architecture of the Legacy Machine No.1 is further emphasised through the high-domed sapphire crystal that has been coated with anti-reflective material, creating a very real presence on the wrist. Compounding to this, there is an innovative, three-dimensional linear power reserve indicator at 6 o’clock.
The Legacy Machine No.1 features a dual-time zone complication. The two are completely independent of each another, with two dials and independent setting crowns at 4 and 8 o’clock, making it a highly usable travel watch. Many travel watches or world timers cannot take into account half-hour time zones for countries like India and parts of Australia, but with the independent times on the two dials, the Legacy Machine No.1 is able to. This MB&F has highly contrasted blued gold hands. that allows for maximum legibility when reading the time.
The watch has a power reserve of 45 hours and comes on its original brown faded alligator strap, with matching red gold tang buckle.
